The Snowy Mountains
Engineering Corporation (SMEC) is a professional services firm with
Australian origins and a global footprint that provides high quality
consultancy services on major infrastructure projects.
SMEC＊s origins date back to 1949 to Australia＊s largest
infrastructure project 每 the Snowy Mountain Scheme. This massive 25-year
(1949 to 1974) multi-purpose project involved hydropower, roads, tunnels and
bridges and drew skilled engineers from around the globe. SMEC was
established in 1970 to retain the design and management skills assembled for
that massive project and to apply them not only in Australia but also in Asia
Pacific, South and Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Today SMEC employs more than 4,000 staff globally, has an
established network of more than 50 offices throughout the world, and has a
well deserved international reputation for excellence. SMEC has successfully
delivered thousands of projects and a vast range of services across more than
80 countries.
SMEC Asia Limited has
been active in Hong Kong for more than 15 years and provides the highest
quality services in Tunnels and Caverns; Geology and Geotechnics; Highways
and Transportation; Railways; Buildings; Infrastructure; and Water, Environment
and Sustainability. Hong Kong is also the the headquarters of SMEC＊s North
Asia Region that also includes Macau, China, Mongolia, Japan, North Korea,
South Korea and Taiwan.
In 2010 SMEC
celebrated 40 years. In keeping with the times SMEC was accepted, in April
